The new statue at the entrance way to the
Valley Gardens has been causing wide comment and controversy
in the local community.
"Heros de Lumiere" is the work of Igor Mitoraj
and was offered on loan to the town by the Henry Moore
Foundation (its usual site is the Yorkshire Scuplture Park).
Igor Mitoraj is a French/Polish sculpter/ painter, born in
1944, who generally works between France, Greece and Italy.
He draws his inspiration for his work from classical ruins
and carved this piece from Carrara Marble, which was also
used by Michaelangelo to produce his "David". It will be in
the gardens until September
