Harrogate to become Hollywood movie set
A new Hollywood Blockbuster, Hunters Prayer, is going to be filmed in Harrogate. The action movie starring Sam Worthington of Avatar and Clash of the Titans fame, will be partly filmed in central Harrogate, with Montpellier Street and Montpellier Mews doubling as a Swiss street for a shoot-out and car chase scene.
The film will be directed by Jonathan Mostow, known for his work on movies such as Terminator 3 and U-571. Location manager Matt Bowden commented on the director’s choice of Harrogate:
“The director loves the location, they all love Harrogate. Hopefully this will lead to more and more filming [in Harrogate].”
“The hope is we won’t have to dress the street too much and it will still be recognisable.”
The filming of Hunters Prayer in Harrogate will take place overnight between 18 and 19 November. The road will be decked out with Swiss signs and will be closed to traffic from 5pm until 4am.
Welcome to Yorkshire chief executive Gary Verity spoke about the decision to use Harrogate in a major Hollywood movie:
“More and more film makers are falling in love with Yorkshire and it’s easy to see why. The county is a living set that can be the focus or backdrop for virtually any genre of film. It is another way of drawing people’s attention to Yorkshire.”
Director of Visit Harrogate Mike Newby said:
“It is always exciting to have famous faces in town.
“Yorkshire is fast becoming a leading location for filming and Harrogate can benefit from that. I can’t think of a better location that combines historic streets and rural areas.”
Hunters Prayer also features rising star Odeya Rush and is based on the novel of the same name by Kevin Wignall.
