Many people visit Harrogate with their best friend at their heels. Harrogate is a great place to bring your dog thanks to its many parks and the Stray that runs around the town centre.

This April, local charity, Saint Michael’s Hospice, is raising money with a sponsored dog walk. The walk is intended to raise money for families affected by terminal illness and dealing with bereavement.

As a result, Woofs and Wellies is back by popular demand. Dog owners will embark (pun intended) on a new 6.5km route from the Yorkshire Event Centre to Crimple Valley.

Harrogate dog lovers and their four-legged friends are set to take the lead and raise vital funds for a local charity. The route will take dog walkers and their pooches through the Rudding Estates, which is not often accessible to the public. Participants will be able to enjoy the beautiful countryside whilst stopping for treats and pooch pick-me-ups along the way. The Woofs and Wellies Walk will take place on Sunday April 21.

Participants will also have the opportunity to stop within the grounds of the Hospice and place a leaf on a ‘memory tree’. Saint Michael’s chief executive, Tony Collins, said: Woofs and Wellies is a fantastic way for local families – and their four legged friends – to have fun, raise money and make a big difference to our vital work.

Events like Woofs and Wellies are essential for helping Saint Michael’s to support local families. It needs £3.8millon each year to maintain its current level of service. The event, which is sponsored for the third year running by Knaresborough’s Forest House Veterinary Surgery, will begin at 10am on Sunday April 21.

It costs just £10 per dog to take part and registration will close on Monday April 15 so make sure you enter. Whether you are a Harrogate resident or visiting, Woofs and Wellies is a great way to make a difference and enjoy the sights and community spirit this town has to offer.

To register your dog’s place contact Saint Michael’s on (01423) 879 687 Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm or email events@saintmichaelshospice.org
