Say “Hello” to our new Features Editor…
As I am new to this site, I thought it only right to introduce myself.
I’m Emma, a writer, social media nerd, champagne drinker and above all a loyal Harrogatonian since 1985. In my years in this delightful town I have attended three wonderful schools, worked in more bars and offices than I can to think about, owned my own cake and coffee shop on the eclectic John Street and despite traveling through America, I returned to my town, because at the heart of it, Harrogate is my town, and the town and I are in the midst of a full scale love affair.
Sure London has its quirky style and fantastic eateries, yes New York has the kind of soul that other cities envy, and sure Paris has the most stunning bakeries and cobbled streets straight from a postcard.
You know what Harrogate has, all of the above.
Sure I am biased I have lived here since my first moment on earth, I have flirted with other cities, coast lines and vistas, but when it comes down to it, there simply is no where on earth quite like Harrogate, it’s an experience for all the senses.
My love affair started early, with hot summers spent in the Valley Gardens, in the paddling pool, on the crazy golf course and chasing the ice cream van for the obligatory home-time 99. My teen years were spent shopping, having dinner in pizza express and working in various shops and although I love Harrogate I never understood its magic appeal.
Until I was walking home last week from the train station and I realised that the best part of the year in Harrogate is autumn, and I am sure living in Harrogate is the reason I love autumn. The dark nights are illuminated by beautiful ornate street lights, the smell of the changing leaves and the lead up to the bonfire, the Christmas lights and markets that celebrate all that is wonderful in this town of mine.
So there you have it, a little about me, a little about my town. I really am looking forward to sharing my insider secrets, and the best Harrogate has to offer.
