Back to "Looking for God", pleaseI'm looking for ... some simple prayers

A starter for ten - the Lord's prayer, in older and newer forms:

Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed by thy name;
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
In earth as it is in heaven;
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil,
For thine is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory,
For ever and ever. Amen.

Our Father in heaven
Hallowed by your name;
Your kingdom come
Your will be done
On earth as in heaven;
Give us today our daily bread,
And forgive us our sins
As we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil,
For the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory are yours,
Now and for ever. Amen.

Anglican Daily Prayer - select today, yesterday or tomorrow's collect and readings

As the seed grows silently in the earth,
As the yeast rises in the dough,
May your power, Spirit of God, be at work in us.
Like a city set on a hill,
Like a lamp shining in the darkness,
May we witness together,
Calling our brothers and sisters to the glory of your light
And the peace and justice of your Kingdom.

  Lord,
Help me to live this day quietly, easily
To lean on your strength trust fully, restfully
To wait for teh unfolding of your will patiently, serenly
To meet others peacefully, joyously
To face tomorrow confidently, courageously

Sunrise Service - for any Easter morning

Not in this land alone where we abide
But in others, too, 'cross oceans wide
In country towns, in cities great
Around the world they'll congregate
In church or hall, on hill or glen
For Sunrise Service once again
To praise the Lamb who died for man
Taking on man's sin as was His plan
He suffered pain; He bled: He died
Then arose and showed 'death' was defied
The world that day had been assured
He was, and is, its Saviour Lord
For He arose! Now on Easter Day
As morning light speeds night away
We praise in prayer the Risen Son
Who, in defeating death...
Proved God has won.

With thanks to Thompson Everingham

Noted on the BBC website, this prayer is used in Parliament:
The following prayer is said at the beginning of each sitting of Parliament. It is usually read by the Speaker's Chaplain and must not be witnessed by 'Strangers':
"Almighty God, by whom alone Kings reign and Princes decree justice, and from whom alone cometh all counsel, wisdom and understanding; we thine unworthy servants here gathered together in Thy Name do most humbly beseech Thee to send down Thy Heavenly Wisdom from above, to direct and guide us in all our consultations:
And grant that, we having Thy fear always before our eyes, and laying aside all private interests, prejudices and partial affections, the result of all our counsels may be to the glory of Thy blessed Name, the maintenance of true Religion and Justice, the safety, honour and happiness of the Queen, the publick wealth, peace and tranquillity of the Realm, and the uniting and knitting together of the hearts of all persons and estates within the same, in true Christian Love and Charity one towards another, through Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour."
