BBC Songs of Praise 2008
The BBC Songs of Praise programme broadcasts planned for February and April 2008 are from this area. With two programmes, churches across the area are contributing to choirs, congregations and with their stories.

This growing page includes various pictures and snippets from filming and rehearsals along with filming dates for both programmes.

Jo with Mike on camera and Roger on sound filming Rev Catherine Askew on the Labyrinth; lighting by Tom O'BrienThe Harrogate programme, broadcast on Sunday 3 February, included hymns 'O Praise ye the Lord', 'King of the Ages', 'Beautiful Saviour', 'Glorious things of thee are spoken' and a third Stuart Townend song with a Celtic feel 'With a prayer you fed the hungry'. The programme is presented by Pam Rhodes, with conductor Gordon Stewart, organist Simon Lole and producer Joanna Malton.

Filming sees Pam Rhodes at Bettys and taking the waters, Tim Frankland from Harrogate Museums talking about the history of Harrogate along with note of the Angel stirring the waters (John 5:7) and Rev Paul Greenwell who remembers four generations of his family worshipping at St Wilfrid's.

Click for our Labyrinth pageThe film crew went to Asda for a surgery with local MP Phil Willis who talks about being a Christian in politics and then to St John's, Bilton and Constance Green Hall with Rev Catherine Askew and the ecumenical Labyrinth. The music in the programme is augmented by contributions from Mark Pallant, with St Aidan's Chamber Choir and the school's in-house worship band 'Aidan's Flame', Gordon Stewart and performances from the 2007 BBC Radio 2 choristers of the year William Dutton and Emma Whitely.

The Healthy Living programme, broadcast on Sunday 6 April, included hymns 'Praise to the Lord', 'The Lord's my shepherd', 'O my soul arise and bless your maker', 'Purify my heart' and 'Guide me O thou great redeemer'.

Featured from all over the UK on this programme are Christine Pickering, Christine Walmsley, Sue Prosser and Russ Parker and the Acorn Christian Healing Foundation, with more music from Will Dutton.
