Other local events

30 May - 1 June, 3pm: Christian Ecology Link Spring Weekend
Celebrate God's creation! June 1st is Conservation Sunday and June 5th is World Environment Day. To mark these events Christian Ecology Link, which since 1981 has been leading the debate on Christian responses to environmental concerns, is holding a Spring Houseparty in the Yorkshire Dales

The aim of the weekend is to celebrate God's Creation in Spring through informal discussions, music, walks in the local area, sharing environmentally friendly food, and participating in worship at a local church. There will also be presentations on the work of Christian Ecology Link aimed at supporting the work of individuals in spreading the green message in their own parishes and communities. The weekend is open to everyone, members and non-members alike, for all the time, or for just one day or session. All activities will be optional.

The venue - Ragged Hall, Rathmell, near Settle, North Yorkshire (but on the border with Lancashire) - is served by two railway stations (Giggleswick and Settle), both four miles away. Lifts can be arranged from either of the stations. Extra activities are being offered for people who would like to come a day early: a) a visit with an expert botanist to see some of the special limestone flora of the area, or b) the chance to visit Gaping Gill cave while the Bradford Potholing Club Winch is set up.

At the H.O.P.E. Centre, Map from 7.15pm - 9.00pm; No charge. Tea and coffee served. Further info from Albert Weidemann who writes:
"Songs in The Night: prayers for peace in Zimbabwe.
"On 27th February 2003, church leaders from Zimbabwe and South Africa gathered in the Bulawayo Catholic Cathedral along with a congregation of over 1000 to bear witness to the tortured. Zimbabweans from five provinces came forward and testified relating personal ordeals of torture and loss. As the democratic space in Zimbabwe narrows, the church plays an ever more crucial role in providing sanctuary to the oppressed and a platform for the truth. As the Zimbabwe crises continues to escalate, with millions facing acute starvation, persecution and torture.
"We encourage and welcome all to listen to the testimony of faith, hope and compassion of Fidelis Mhashu prior to his return to Zimbabwe. As Christians of Faith we request your intercession and intervention in Zimbabwe's time of need. We shall stand our ground in victory with thanksgiving, praise and worship.
"This would also be an opportunity for Christians In Business Harrogate (CIB) to join us and expand on their business plans."
