"without the help of Essential Needs, I would have been unable to provide a home for my family, thank you for your kindness, help and assistance"

MISSION
  • to provide low cost furniture and household items to single people and families on low incomes or in receipt of income based benefit, who may be excluded from the traditional sources of furniture; we thus help them to gain stability and comfort in a house of which they can be proud;
  • to minimise waste by recirculating furniture and household items;
  • to contribute to the local community by assisting those in need of this kind of material support.
AIMS
  • to offer a caring, friendly and personal service;
  • to respond to the changing social needs of our community and adapt our service accordingly;
  • to support the community by offering a variety of work experiences for volunteers.
ORIGINS
  • the founding organisation for Essential Needs was set up in the 1960's to help unmarried mothers who wanted to keep their babies. It started to evolve in 1982; and, despite setbacks is now a flourishing charity. For more information.
STAFFING
  • Essential Needs employs one full-time and on part-time member of staff, assisted by volunteers who give their time to help run the warehouse, collect and deliver goods and staff the office. It takes hard work and commitment to keep Essential Needs functioning.
VOLUNTEERS
  • do you have spare time on your hands? We are always in need of volunteers to help us run the project, particularly in the following areas:
  • help on the van - delivering and collecting furniture
  • help in the warehouse - primarily moving furniture
  • office administration. Basic keyboard skills are required but training will be given.

Any offer of help is welcomed. Please contact martin@essentialneeds.org.uk or ring 01423 870040 for an application form.
