Although,
at first sight, Harrogate and the surrounding area appears to be affluent,
with few visible signs of hardship, it is estimated there are 10,000
households in the Harrogate urban and rural areas that are eligible
to use our services. Many
people in the Harrogate area are on low incomes or in receipt of income
based benefits including single parents and the elderly. They are unable
to replace worn-out furniture and household goods or they may be setting
up their first home and need help in furnishing and equipping it.
All
our clients are referred to us by Social Services, housing and other
agencies or are in receipt of an income based benefit.
We
urgently need all items of furniture and household goods, which we
will collect from you, free of charge, at a mutually convenient time,
usually within 3 - 5 working days of contact. No more worries about
costly disposal or of contributing to the growing environmental problem
of landfill sites. You can be content in the knowledge that your furniture
will be helping someone less well off than yourself to 'turn an
empty house into a home'.
We
do, however, reserve the right to politely decline to accept, at the
driver's discretion, any item offered depending on our needs at the
time of contact, or the requirements of current safety legislation.
(In
particular, we can only accept upholstered items if there is a label
attached affirming that it complies with the 1988 (or later) regulations).
