Explore is the First Salon in our Explore, Discover and Experiment Berwins Salon North Series.
Let us ease in to our spring Salon by asking ourselves why we feel the need to explore in the first place. Founder and Editor in Chief of Mr and Mrs Smith Juliet Kinsman will be in conversation with Helen Bagnall about her work to understand our complex motivations for travelling the globe. What is it that we are looking for when we travel, and why are we so keen to leave everything we know behind to find it? Then without leaving the wonderful world of The Crown Hotel, we will explore New York City taking a psycho geography look at the city through the eyes of its most creative inhabitants. The incredible writer Olivia Laing (To the River, Trip to Echo Spring) will help us to take a lateral look at the artists that defined the city that never sleeps, and explain how a city teeming with life and potential can be the loneliest place on earth. Finally we will explore the future with Alec Ross, formerly Senior Advisor for Innovation to then US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton. He will explain the landscape of the industries of the future and explain just how we prepare for a world where the majority of emerging workers will have jobs that haven’t been invented yet? No need to panic. The Distinguished Visiting Fellow at John Hopkins University Alec Ross will be over from the US to explain very clearly exactly how we can navigate the future.
