On their first visit to Britain in 1992, the Boyan Ensemble was hailed “A Musical Sensation”. The Press reported an ecstatic audience response that remains undiminished, and resulted in a demand for the choir’s return each year – in 2013, we celebrate their 21st concert tour of Great Britain.
Arriving from Poland directly after a performance of Orthodox Liturgy for the Włodawa Festival of Three Cultures, Boyan Ensemble looks forward to greeting its fans with a thrilling showcase of sacred and secular works displaying the virtuosic a capella singing for which it is renowned.
The late Music Director, Maestro Bohdan Antkiv, People’s Artist of Ukraine, formed the Ensemble in 1969 as the travelling arm of Ukraine’s leading professional male choir, The Revutsky Academic Male Capella, based in Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv.
The twenty six musicians on tour include Artistic Director Yuriy Kuratch and his twin brother, singer/conductor Volodymyr Kuratch, and many superb soloists, including soprano Valentina Ivanenko, the only female voice.
