Harrogate International Festivals is proud to present the Armonico Consort as part of the 50th Harrogate Festival.
Attracting five-star reviews from The Times to The Independent, Armonico Consort is one of the UK’s most acclaimed choirs. Following their sell-out performance at Harrogate Festival in 2013, the Consort returns in 2015 to present a performance of Rachmaninov’s deeply moving All-Night Vigil, marking 100 years since it was written. Performed in the enchanting glow of candlelight in the stunning surroundings of St Wilfrid’s Church, be transported to heavenly heights with this spine-tingling performance.
The All-Night Vigil is considered to be one of Rachmaninov’s finest achievements, reflecting the deep religious spirit of his countrymen. Set to texts taken from the Russian Orthodox liturgy including several from the canonical hour of Vespers, sung in its original Church Slavonic language. Although not religious himself, Rachmaninov found the music of the Russian Orthodox Church deeply moving and this piece became one of his favourite works, requesting one of its movements to be sung at his funeral. Profoundly stirring, this promises to be a mesmerising evening featuring the extraordinarily sublime music that has made the Vespers so timelessly moving.
Rachmaninov Vespers “All-Night Vigil”, Op.37
