Victor Harbor City Band
South Australia

Victor Harbor City BandWhat we are - A traditional brass band comprising men, women and youngsters, ranging in age from 16 to 85. Currently we number 39 players lead by Music Director Geoff Lambe. We do not take part in competitions, we practice and play our music for pleasure, our own and that of our audiences. We currently receive a small annual grant from our city council but most of our income is gained through our own efforts in concert performances, paid engagements, street play-out collections and sponsorships.

Where we are - Victor Harbor.
Victor Harbor is a sea-side holiday resort about 80 kilometres south of Adelaide, South Australia. District population, about 12,500. A popular retirement locality with some industrial activity, also agricultural and dairying. The mild climate generally throughout the year leads to a pleasant life style.

History - The original band was formed early last century. After becoming defunct at some time, it was reformed in 1934 as the Victor Harbor Municipal Band and was quite successful until the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939. It was revived again in 1947. In the 1960's the band changed its name to become the Victor Harbor Citizens Band, and as with most bands, it has had its highs and lows over the years. During the last 15 years or so as the district has grown and prospered, so has the band. Early in 2002 the band changed its name to the Victor Harbor City Band.

Music Director - Geoff Lambe has considerable brass experience and leadership ability. He commenced playing brass in 1949 with the Salvation Army. His deputy is Elizabeth Stoldt, a professional music teacher with much academic and practical ability.

Visitors are welcome, our weekly rehearsals, Tuesday evenings 7:30-9:30, Music Room, Victor Harbor Recreation Centre.
