Node Hill School Brass Band
The first ever IOW school brass band was formed at Node Hill in 2004. Catering for the pupils aged between 9 and 13 the band draws its membership from absolute beginners and was the brain child of head teacher and former SWT Woodfalls cornet player, Mr David Morris.
The Newport based band has proven to be a run away success and a training band was formed last year giving Node Hill over 60+ musicians benefiting from the experience of making music. Both bands are under the direction of Mrs Mary Teague, a music teacher and co-ordinator.
Many of the children undertake exams, most recently David Medland (grade 6 soprano) and Glen McGuinness (grade 5 trombone)
Many of Node Hill player also play in other ensembles and groups, for this is actively encouraged by the school.
2006 highlights so far have included a masterclass with Mr Gary Cutt and the recording of the bands first CD. 2007 will see our usual entry into the IOW Music Festival and a new entry into the Ventnor Music For Fun Contest also a trip to London is planned.
