| All our students are visually impaired, many have additional needs such as hearing impairment, physical or learning difficulties Students are aged 16 and over, from all areas of the UK. Henshaws College is situated on a pleasant 12-acre campus on the outskirts of Harrogate in North Yorkshire. |

AIMS OF THE
COLLEGE Our main aim is to prepare students for adult independence and life choices, whilst enabling them to reach or maintain their maximum level of independence. We believe our students have the right to a worthwhile and fulfilling life. Our education and training programmes, together with the environment in which they are delivered, are designed to support students in achieving these aims. |

EXPERIENCES WE OFFER College provision is structured around three Independence courses which reflect the range and complexity of needs found amongst our students.

only those within more formal learning sessions, but also those arising in the

ACCOMMODATION

| HEALTH, FITNESS
AND LEISURE All students benefit from a personal health and fitness programme using the excellent facilities available in our health, fitness and leisure complex. A wide choice of recreational activities is available during evenings and weekends, using facilities on campus but also taking advantage of those available in the surrounding areas. Students may be able to participate in Special Olympics at regional, national and international levels. | |
| CARE AND SUPPORT A range of therapies are available on campus, including physiotherapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy. Counselling and psychological services can be arranged where needed. Students are encouraged to make their own decisions and choices with support from members of their course team's academic and/or residential staff. All students have a Key/Worker and Personal Tutor to help them in identifying and achieving personal objectives. | |
| LONG-TERM
SOLUTIONS TO LONG-TERM NEEDS We aim to continue to support students when they leave College, and many choose to remain in the Harrogate area. Our Community Housing Scheme enables them to access continuing education programmes, voluntary work placements or craft-based training and employment. | |
