Harrogate Symphony Orchestra is an amateur orchestra based around the area of Harrogate in North Yorkshire. Harrogate is a famous spa town and is well known throughout England for its reputation of having many sulphurous springs, of which the rich came to drink. This was called 'Taking the Waters' and was supposed to cure illnesses of many different kinds. Besides the waters, other things make Harrogate famous, for instance, the flowers and wildlife in the area.

As Harrogate has grown and moved on, many changes have taken place since these old times of noblemen and women. Harrogate has developed into what it is known as today, as a conference town. Having the International Conference Centre really has made Harrogate even more famous today than it was a century ago.
