Happy Tails is a small book available from the JERRY GREEN FOUNDATION TRUST that tells stories about dogs that have been through one of the sanctuaries.  One of the stories on this book is about the dog pictured.

Jenny the cover girl

OVER GIRL jenny is a Saluki/Whippet.  She was 14 months old and weighed just 22 pounds when she was abandoned, when delivered by the police to the Catton Shelter in 1992.

A few days later we were at the shelter and immediately fell in love with her.  As we were welfare visitors for the trust, we were allowed to take Jenny home and care for her.  We got her built up to her ideal weight of 52 pounds (before and after pictures of Jenny were published in the annual report of 1992).

She is a regular Jekyll and Hyde character.  One minute she is the most aloof and stuck up animal ever and the next she is a regular tomboy - with the scars to prove it!

In 1994, we decided to have her portrait painted.  The artist told us that, as the picture had been admired by many people who had seen it, she would like to have the cards printed of the portrait to sell at shows she attended around the country.

Everyone who meets Jenny says how beautiful she is.  Jenny just looks down her long nose and says to herself: "Of course I am; I am a famous model!"

But she doesn't like us to tell people that, a few weeks after we got her, she chewed the wooden arms of a suite we'd only had three days!
