The first Birstwith Show was held in 1867. Since when, the show has been held every year apart from the effects of war and from the disastrous outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease in 2001.
The annual show is the main activity of Birstwith Horticultural Society. It also organises other social events during the year and has been the host on two occasions for Gardeners Question Time.
