      THE   "OLD STATION INN"

The Old Station Inn is sited near the river Nidd.  40 years ago a single railway track ran close by and a large goods yard was opposite.  The railway went with Mr Beeching and now the views are of open fields and rural housing.
If you think that exotic culinary locations such as London, San Francisco and Australasia have nothing in common with North Yorkshire village inns, then you are wrong. For two entrepreneurial brothers are rapidly transforming the two country inns - the Old Station Inn at Birstwith, and the Blue Bell Inn at Kirby Hill into oases of gourmet cuisine culled from the world's finest kitchens.

Not that Richard and Michael Caven plan to ignore traditional, freshly prepared and cooked fare - far from it. Home-cooked meals using locally-supplied meat, fish and vegetables dominate the menus - and the satisfying Sunday roasts are simply sumptuous.

Their "Specials Boards" regularly feature more exotic dishes to tempt the more adventurous palette - try the Moroccan lamb, smoked salmon with a honey and mustard crust or one of the imaginative curries, for example.

Complemented by reasonably-priced wines (New World varieties as well as the classic European vintages) and full flavoured Yorkshire Ales the kitchens of our two inns have already made an impact on the dining-out habits of an appreciative clientele.Much more could be said about Caven Taverns...but why not click on the links below, and find out for yourself what is on offer? "DALE

STORES"

The village shop, and Post Office combined, is a vital part of this small village. It provides an amazing range of goods which is greatly appreciated by a community living far from the shops of Harrogate.    Tel: 01423 770271

The shop is run by Andrea and Matthew Walwyn who have a son Tom, 18 and a daughter Rosie, 6 who attends Birstwith Primary School.

“We are delighted about moving to Birstwith” said Andrea “We fell in love with the village when we started taking Rosie to school here, some two years ago. We have been looking to buy our own business for a number of years, but until now, we have never found anything that we have felt passionate about. Miguel and Jane have worked incredibly hard over the past years to provide the kind of service that the village wants and needs. We are looking forward to running the shop and Post Office in exactly the same way”  We look forward to the continued support of customers old and new!

The family are keen to support local initiatives and help in any way they can, in fact Matthew has recently attended meetings with both Friends of Birstwith School and BHS.
