The HAPPY WANDERERS operate three ambulances from premises in Harrogate. This FREE transport is provided without restrictions on the length of the journey, or the time taken. Volunteer drivers register with the Wanderers and using an advanced booking system the Ambulances can be reserved in a wide range of situations by any person or group with a need. Handicapped persons are taken to their holiday destination and bought back afterwards. People are taken to church. Or to visit friends. Or on shopping or seaside expeditions. Or to the theatre. There are almost no uses that the HAPPY WANDERERS AMBULANCES are not put to in the course of an average year - and all provided free of charge.

Members of the WANDERERS have always been proud of the fact that this service is available for 365 days of the year for those who would otherwise have difficulty in being able to leave their homes.

All work, not only the driving, is done by volunteers and no payment is made for their services. All journey expenses are met from the WANDERERS funds. The running costs of each ambulance are approximately £2,200 per year. New vehicles with facilities for loading wheelchairs cost upwards from £20,000 and the WANDERERS are proud of the fleet of relatively recent vehicles which they provide, and the standard of reliability they maintain.
