Barleyfields Community Centre

Now Let Us Tell You About Our Group...

We Are Non Registered Voluntary Organization.

Brief Description.

The Wetherby drop-in centre is an informal group for people suffering from mental illness, or experiencing severe emotional problems and difficulties

The need for a support group for people suffering from schizophrenia, manic depression, and similar serious mental disorders was identified in the mid 1980's. No other support group existed, and our organization is still the only one serving this area. People with such mental health difficulties have problems making friends, relationships, and joining social activities, etc.

By providing recreational and social activities each Friday afternoon we try to ensure a friendly atmosphere which helps to overcome loneliness and feelings of inadequate

The activities in which we engage provide diversions, interests and relationships away from the club.

We are also able to give advise on a number of subjects ranging from benefits, sheltered housing, etc., and when members are not well we can ensure that a CPN or social worker is informed.

The group is organized by volunteers, the members and support is given by by a CPN from Harrogate and social workers from Leeds.
